Angkor Riviera Hotel

Picking up from the last post....

Due to the delays in our flight, we missed the Thursday night flight from Seoul to Siem Reap.  Fast forward to Friday night.  Check in goes well.  This flight is thankfully much shorter.  Only 5ish hours.

When you come to Cambodia, you need a visa.  Most get a 30 day Tourist visa, but if you need to stay longer, or need more than one exit/entry you  need to apply for a Ordinary visa.  You can apply for the Tourist visa online before your trip, and once you're approved you print it out and bring it with to avoid the visa desk when you arrive.  Because we need the Ordinary visa, we had to stand in line... and it was a LONG, crazy mess of a line.  Finally get to the front, hand the visa agent our paperwork along with two twenty dollar bills to cover the fees (tourist visa =20, Ordinary = 25).  He takes the paperwork, gives one twenty back, and waves us on to the waiting queue.   Visa's are approved and glued in to our passports quickly and we're good.  Except we're not good.   We've been given Tourist visas instead of Ordinary visas.  I take our passports back to the Agent and try to explain the error. After shushing me like a child (for real...and I was being SO POLITE!) he found our paperwork and took everything to the "big boss".   Some pointing and head shaking goes on and finally the agent returns to say that they cannot change, but we can apply for a 30 day extension "tomorrow".   I am at a loss of what to do, but I dont have a lot of choices.  its 11pm on a Friday night, and we don't have any one to consult with, so we take our second rate passes and our excessively overweight luggage and hail a big ass taxi to get us to the hotel.

Along the route, we reassess where we are at.  Yes, the visa is an issue.  Its minor, and should be easily fixable.  And we knew there would be hitches along the way.  Just one more bit of silliness to add to the story.

Get to the hotel, check in and finally fall in to bed.  Life will get sorted out on Saturday.........  (ya right.)
